Many animals are brought to 5A's because they were acquired by families who were unable to assume the responsibilities of owning a pet. Others are the result of unwanted pregnancies. Please understand that the requirements listed below have been developed not only to protect the adopted pet but also to protect you from the heartache of losing or returning an animal.
Adoption Regulations for both dogs and cats Proper maintenance of the adopted pet including healthy food, water, and exercise. Veterinary care is mandatory. The adopted pet must be spayed or neutered in a time frame determined at the time of adoption. 5A’s must receive a certificate showing that the adopted pet has been spayed or neutered. Most local veterinarians will give a discount for spaying or neutering an animal adopted from 5A’s.
Adoption Regulations for cats and kittens Adopted cats and kittens must be kept inside the owner’s house and not allowed to run outside.
Adoption Regulations for dogs and puppies A fenced yard must be provided for an adopted dog or puppy. The pet should not be chained, tied, or allowed to run loose. Dogs who stay outside the house must have an insulated dog house. Rabies shots are mandatory.
